January 2020: the man watches
This 10” x 8” ink drawing is based on a 1954 photo by noted Italian photographer Mario Cattaneo.
It is one of several 10”x 8” drawings done in Pigma pen on Bristol board in a series I titled Noir. They are inspired by film noir, and are a variety of long shots, medium shots, and close ups so that any three drawings can be combined to create a narrative.

Earth Laughs In Flowers (36” x 18”) is the newest piece in Conversing With The Dead. Working from Holly’s repeated rows and heavy textures, I created a fabric collage over much of it, then started painting into that.
The title is from this section of Emerson’s Hamatreya:
Earth laughs in flowers, to see her boastful boys Earth-proud, proud of the earth which is not theirs; Who steer the plough but cannot steer their feet Clear of the grave.
