November 2021: NEW DIRECTIONS

After spending a year and a half on intensive skill-building, culminating in my Face Forward show, it was time to reflect on where to go next with these newer tools.
This piece, completed in late October, serves as the bridge: collaging a printout of reference material onto canvas, isolating it with a couple of thin layers of acrylic, then working in oils, found me working much more loosely than I was able to with just the paint.
As things start loosening up post-vaccination I also find myself drawn to working less from online muses and more to local people and places. There are a few small canvases already on the easels, works in progress that point me to the coming new year with excitement.

OCTOBER 2021: FACE FORWARD

My show is up! “Face Forward: Portraits from a Pandemic” is hanging at Ukiah Valley Networking Agency, 104 N School Street, through October 30th.
I have had two events already with two more scheduled: On Sunday October 17 from 1 - 4 PM, Meet the Artist. I will be onsite drawing, demonstrating the Loomis method for drafting a head, and giving away artwork. On Saturday, October 30 from 3 - 6 PM, a closing reception.

September 2021: Mahan

Mahan from Sktchy has caught the attention of many of us working in a variety of media for her use of light and angle to enhance the moods she so well conveys. Here are five drawings and one painting…and I have a couple more saved reference photos!
