Born and raised in New York, Janet attended the Brooklyn Museum Art School from 1970 through 1974, studying painting and drawing with Allen Barber, Dick Cunningham, Bill Jensen, Sheridan Lord, Andy Reiss, and Kendall Shaw.
An active participant in San Francisco Open Studios through the early and mid 1990s, Janet served on the Artspan Artist Advisory Council and was a member of the Sunset Artist Society. She taught beginning acrylic painting at Fogbelt Studio and offered private painting lessons at her home studio.
Janet began spending time in Ukiah in the late 1990s, started painting landscapes of the area shortly thereafter, and moved up full time in 2007. In late 2018 she participated in a game-changing charcoal life drawing workshop led by Henry Yan at the Mendocino Art Center, and began drawing in earnest. She is a member of the Arts Council of Mendocino County, and was their Artist in the Spotlight for Summer 2021.
