May: PORTRAIT OF LORRAINE

After six weeks of experimenting with drawing media, as May closes out I’m doing a deep dive into graphite on toned paper, striving for softness and expression.

While sheltering in place, I’ve enrolled in a 30 Faces/30 Days online course to make sure I keep building my skills. It’s fun because I get encouraged to try different media and approaches.
So far this is my favorite drawing, done in Pigma micron pens on Bristol board.

March 2020: nick, 1915

An old photo of my grandfather as a young man arrived in NY from Bucharest was the source for this graphite drawing.
